The call will see the final results of Apple’s last 2009 quarter, as the company reportedly moves to beef up its product offering with improvements in its iMac range as it enters the first quarter of the 2010 financial year, which customarily begins between September 28-30. New iMacs are expected in early October. Speaking during the most recent Q3-09 call, Apple CFO, Peter Oppenheimer, predicted revenue in this quarter in the range of $8....

With informed speculation suggesting that the price of the Apple Watch Edition will be somewhere in the $6-10,000 range, you might think that would easily make it the most expensive smartwatch on the market. But no: luxury watchmaker Hoptroff makes a mechanical gold smartwatch for £14,400 ($21,700)–and the platinum model works out to a cool $54,000. Functionality may be limited, but it’s genius design. It syncs with your iPhone to access your calendar data, then one dial points to the time of your next appointment while another points to the first letter of the appointment title–for example, the name of the person you’re meeting....

Following yesterday’s iPhone XS/Max reviews, it’s now the turn for reviews of the Apple Watch Series 4 – and there couldn’t be a greater contrast between the two. Apple’s cherry-picked quotes aside, reviewers were mostly underwhelmed by the new iPhone, advising iPhone X users not to bother upgrading and owners of older models to hold fire for the iPhone XR. But when it comes to the new Watch, the clear majority view is that the Series 4 finally delivers on the promise of the device – and now is the time to buy....

Following Apple’s announcement that it expected to stop using Imagination Technologies’ GPU designs in iPhones and iPads within two years, UBS has put together a forecast of the financial impact. UBS predicts that Apple will initially reduce the royalty rate it pays on each iPhone and iPad produced to just ten cents per device before ceasing payments altogether after two years … Apple currently pays Imagination 30 cents per device, accounting for around two-third of the company’s income, reports Reuters....

Since Apple confirmed the death of AirPower in March, we’ve seen countless alternatives pop up. Now, Apple is set to start selling its first multi-device wireless charger as an alternative to AirPower. As first spotted by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on Twitter, Apple will next week begin selling new multi-device AirPower alternatives from popular accessory maker Mophie. According to listings published early on Apple’s Latin America online store, these new solutions include a dual wireless charging base, as well as a 3-in-1 option....

Apple is finally addressing a popular feature request with the iOS 9 upgrade to HealthKit and the built-in Health app on iPhones. Users will be able to log reproductive health data with the app including menstruation data. The update will also support tracking water intake, time spent not moving, and more metrics. The lack of female-specific health tracking features has been a huge source of criticism for the company since it introduced Health last year....

The Apple TV will soon be getting more content thanks to a new FXNOW channel set to debut on the platform in the near future, according to two new reports (via iLounge). The news comes from the Television Critics Association Press Tour with TV writer Jason Lynch reporting the FXNOW channel will arrive on Apple TV within 12 months. The FXNOW channel, which is already available on iOS devices via an app for iPhone and iPad, offers on-demand video streaming from across the FX, FXX, and FXM networks....

The Apple Watch Series 4 and beyond have a feature called Fall Detection. This uses the gyroscope and accelerometer to detect if you’ve fallen, and more importantly, if you’ve fallen and cannot get back up. You have to smile at the idea of a conference devoted to discussing the ‘the business of Apple Watch‘ when there’s only one company which knows the real numbers, and that company isn’t telling. But that doesn’t, of course, stop people guessing. Fortune‘s Philip Elmer-DeWitt helpfully rounded up some of the numbers presented at the Glance conference. Asymco’s Horace Dediu has projected that Apple will hit 21M sales in the first 12 months....

Apple’s Planet of the Apps wasn’t exactly a hit with either audiences or critics, but another attempt at original content has been far more successful. Apple has won an Emmy for Carpool Karaoke, which has been named Outstanding Short Form Variety Series … It was nominated for the Emmy in July, and Deadline reports that the show got the good news yesterday. It’s not the first time Apple has won an Emmy – it has been awarded the prize several times in the technical/engineering category, but it’s the first occasion on which the Cupertino company has received one for original content....

There were several new developments today about how Apple will help fuel its new North Carolina data center that powers iCloud. According to a filing today, and as first reported by CNET, Apple tapped Bloom Energy to provide fuel cells to power the data center. Each fuel cell can set off up to 200 kW of power by combining biogas with oxygen and other chemicals. Apple plans to build a 4....

One of the early Apple TV+ creative executives is departing the company, according to a new report from Variety. Michelle Mendelovitz, who oversaw the development of some of the first Apple TV+ shows, is headed to 20th Century Fox Television, the report says. Mendelovitz will serve as the senior vice president of drama development at 20th Century Fox Television, taking over the role previously held by Chloe Dan. She’ll report to VP of development, comedy and drama, Jennifer Gwartz....

Update: The two parties may have agreed terms for the escrow account, but Reuters reports that they have yet to agree a date for Apple to begin transferring funds into it. The EU ruling that Ireland offered illegal state aid to Apple, and must recover €13B ($15B) in underpaid taxes, marked the end of a long-running investigation – but not the end of the dispute … Both Apple and the Irish government have appealed the ruling, but the position in the meantime is that the amount must be collected....

Apple has detailed new iMac hardware at WWDC 2017. Apple previously promised new iMac hardware for later this year, although a WWDC reveal was not totally expected. The new hardware includes improved Retina displays, Kaby Lake processors, and upgraded memory and storage options. The new machines include both USB-A and USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports on the back I/O. Updates are available for the 21.5-inch non-Retina machine as well as the 4K iMac and 5K iMac....

Apple this evening has continued its outspoken attitude when it comes to protection of user rights and privacy. The Washington Post reports that the company has spoken out against a controversial cybersecurity bill that, if passed, would give the government a variety of new powers to access user data. Supporters of the bill say that it would protect users from hackers in the long run, but Apple’s not buying it....

Apple is finishing up work on the Apple Watch’s software, and sources familiar with the product’s development say that the device is currently on track to ship in the United States by the end of March. Apple previously said that the wearable product will ship in “early 2015,” while Senior Vice President of Retail Angela Ahrendts got a bit more specific by telling employees that the launch will occur in the “spring,” after the Chinese New Year…...

The iPhone X and iPhone 8 were the first iPhones to support wireless charging. The devices launched with support for 5W wireless charging, with a later iOS update bringing support for 7.5W. Now, Apple says the iPhone Xs supports even faster wireless charging but with the vanishing act they pulled with the AirPower charging station, details are a bit murky… Earlier reports had suggested that this year’s iPhone models would be upped to 10W wireless charging support – a small but notable upgrade compared to the 7....

Apple has landed a new comedy series order, “The Shrink Next Door”, which will star Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd. The show is based on the popular podcast of the same name. The show is a dark comedy loosely based on true events. The plot will describe the relationship between Rudd’s character, a celebrity psychiatrist, and his long-running patient Martin Markowitz (played by Ferrell). Over time, the psychiatrist invades Markowitz’s life, moves into his home and takes over the business....
