Following today’s iWork for iCloud update, Apple has pushed out new versions of the iOS and OS X version of the productivity suite, providing feature parity with the online version. Pages (iOS / Mac), Keynote (iOS / Mac), and Numbers (iOS / Mac) each received a new read-only sharing mode to work with the iCloud version of that feature. Each app also got a long list of changes and enhancements, which are listed below....

While this year’s iPhone lineup is expected to comprise one LCD and two OLED models, Apple continues to look ahead to the next generation of display technology: microLED. This upcoming display technology is both brighter and more power-efficient than OLED, and doesn’t suffer from burn-in. The new Apple TV 4K begins arriving at customer’s doorsteps from today, and Patrick O’Rourke at Mobile Syrup has an interview with Apple VP Tim Twerdahl on the new box and its redesigned remote. Most notably, Twerdahl highlights the potential capabilities of the HDMI 2.1 port including the high-frame rate 4K HDR output and support for eARC, which allows sound from all TV sources to output to a connected HomePod. Twerdahl says Apple is committed to “making great audio products for the home”, an important note given that the eARC feature currently only works with the 2018 HomePod, a product Apple has discontinued....

Larger displays are the headline feature of the Apple Watch Series 4 and iPhone XS Max. To spotlight the new screens, Apple has created large displays of another kind – in storefront windows. Just a five minute walk from Apple’s flagship store on Regent Street is retailer John Lewis. Apple has taken over the first floor Oxford Street windows of the massive department store to build a temporary installation. Black wrappings canvas the windows, punctuated by four brightly lit and moving displays....

After our attempt at explaining the 500% markup on Apple’s new solar array yesterday, further information has now confirmed that Apple’s new stores – starting in the brand new San Francisco location – will be utilizing a new walkable solar glass floor technology for electricity generation. According to a document on Onyx Solar’s website, Apple “has decided to commit itself to OnyxSolar’s designer photovoltaic technology for its new stores. The first of these is located in the heart of San Francisco, the company’s home town....

Users looking to trade in their iPhone 5 for credit toward a newer model will now get less value out of their old devices. Today Apple cut the trade-in value of the iPhone by $45, from the previous $270 down to only $225. The change is visible on websites for both United States and Canada Apple Stores, but it is likely that stores in other countries will see changes in local currency equivalents....

Apple is pretty vocal about its stance on equality, often noting that everyone that works for Apple deserves equal pay, regardless of race or gender. However, that belief doesn’t always translate to reality. Reuters reports that male Apple employees in the U.K. get paid 5 percent more than women on average. It does say that the median pay for women was 2 percent higher than men, though. This information comes out a day after a deadline in Britain, which required companies to report their gender pay gaps....

Apple has removed the vinyl window coverings from its first retail store in Singapore, revealing the interior for the first time. Straits Times reports that the ground floor is used to display both main products and accessories, while the focus of the upper floor is on space for the company’s Today at Apple creative sessions … The paper says that one of the photos sees staff being briefed prior to the grand opening on Saturday....

New data from Canalys today sheds some light on how Apple Watch sales stacked up against the competition during the Q1 2018 (Apple’s Q2). While maintaining its top spot as the most popular wearable maker, Apple also dominated cellular smartwatch sales. Apple doesn’t break out Apple Watch numbers with its quarterly earnings. What Tim Cook did share for this last quarter was that it saw “Apple Watch growing “strong double digits” to new March quarter record....

Home control system integration with Apple TV and Siri is one of the few features introduced in tvOS 12, and this week Crestron is releasing an update to its programmable touch screen remote to support the new feature. Apple announced home control system integration last year at WWDC 2018 alongside Dolby Atmos support and new screen savers designed for Apple TV, although adoption of the smart home feature has been rather slow....

GforGames is today running a piece based on a Weibo post, claiming that both the 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6 and iWatch will be released in December. December would be an extremely unlikely time for Apple to launch a new product. Many people will already have made holiday gift purchases by then, while others would have unleashed their gadget fund on Black Friday, which this year falls on 28th November....

Wow – that was worth the wait. Apple today introduced new iMacs, now equipped with 21.5-inch and 27-inch LED-backlit displays. Following Tuesday’s introduction of the first Apple Silicon Macs, Apple VPs Tim Millet and Bob Borchers have sat down for a pair of interviews to talk more about the M1 chip. Fortune ran its usual poll of more than two dozen analysts, with the consensus view echoing earlier predictions that Apple will beat its revenue guidance of $36-38B by reporting $38.4B for its fiscal Q3 (calendar Q2). Gross margin is also expected to exceed Apple’s guidance of 37-38 percent, at 38.1 percent. This follows forecasts that iPhone sales would climb 15 percent year-on-year, while iPad sales will be flat. Apple will hold its Q4 financial results conference call on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 2pm, PT, the company has confirmed. The event will likely see the company return new record numbers for iPad and iPhone sales, strong Mac sales buoyed by recent improvements in its portable range, and some hint as to how effective the new breed of iPod touch has been at continuing to shore up the companuy’s slowly declining iPod sales....

A new rumor claims Apple will host an event tomorrow for the launch of iTunes Store content in seven Asian regions. e27 just published a report, which cited a “trusted source in the industry,” about Apple planning to host a launch event in Hong Kong for iTunes Store video content going live in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Hong Kong....

Apple has always attempted to respect historic landmarks in planning its various real estate expansions, and as the San Jose Mercury News reported today, two buildings with a full century of history between them will coexist as the company continues its trend by preserving a 100-year-old barn to remain on the campus of its new headquarters. The Glendenning Barn was built in 1916, exactly 100 years before construction on Apple’s new facility is expected to be completed....
