Apple will start selling fully unlocked, SIM-free iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models in the United States beginning tomorrow, January 6th, according to several sources. The unlocked iPhones will be available both via Apple’s physical retail stores and online store… Currently, Apple sells the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in the U.S. either via a carrier contract or unlocked on T-Mobile. Tomorrow’s change means that Apple will sell the latest iPhone models with no SIM-card so that customers can use the phone anywhere in the world on any supported carrier by bringing along their own SIM-card....

An Apple Watch patent granted today describes the inclusion of one or more cameras capable of photographing the user, hinting at Face ID on the Watch. The patent also describes how sensors in a smart band could be used to analyze sports performance in such activities as football, baseball, and golf… The patent application was originally made in September 2017, and was granted today. Apple this week released iOS 13.3 to the public, which includes a new Communication Limits feature for Screen Time. A new report from CNBC, however, explains that the feature doesn’t exactly work as it’s designed to. By design, Communication Limits in Screen Time are meant to let parents control who their kids can talk to and when they can talk to them. In its most basic form, Communication Limits block children from communicating with people who aren’t in their contacts, without parental approval....

Like he has done before, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing Phil Schiller has taken to his Twitter account to share a new report highlighting a much higher amount of security threats on Android compared to iOS. Schiller linked to Cisco’s 2014 annual security report covering mobile malware trends over the last year, which happens to highlight a rise in malware on Android as one of its key takeaways: That 71% encounter rate for web-delivered malware on Android mentioned above compares to just 14 percent for iPhone users, according to the report....

The Apple Watch Series 4 ECG functionality expanded to Europe just last week, but it’s already being credited with saving a user’s life. As detailed by The Sun, an Apple Watch user in Germany discovered that he suffered from Afib through his Apple Watch, after initially writing the ECG feature off as something only “for hypochondriacs.” The unnamed Apple Watch user in Germany sent an email to Dr. Michael Spher of Germany’s FAZ newspaper....

Apple appears to be looking to further improve the iTunes Radio service through the $30 million acquisition of a radio application called Swell, Re/code reported early Monday morning. Unlike the $3 billion Beats Electronics (and Beats Music) buyout, however, this purchase centers more on talk radio than music. Swell currently carries news from sources such as NPR, ABC, ESPN, the BBC, and more, and uses a user’s listening history to create personalized content playlists....

Apple has rolled out some new channel additions to the Apple TV set-top box this morning. Both FOX NOW and CNBC have joined the Apple TV lineup. Both channels appear to require a cable subscription to unlock the content within. However, some episodes and clips are available without providing subscription credentials. The CNBC channel supports viewing live broadcasts from the business-focused station as well as viewing previously aired shows and content....

Last month, Apple updated its Design Resources to include new iOS 12 elements. Now, the company has released even more new resources, including AppKit UI elements, watchOS elements, and more. An Apple Watch camera is one of the things that could make it more practical for the wearable device to eventually replace an iPhone. IFOAppleStore got its hands on a photo of a new Genius Bar that ditches the traditional desk in the back and moves to a 10-foot long table perpendicular to the back wall with more seats. As Apple continues its efforts to break into the fashion scene, it was today announced that the company will sponsor the 2016 Met Gala. For those unfamiliar, the Met Gala is an event held every year in New York to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute. Each year has a different theme and the 2016 theme will be “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” with Apple sponsoring the event and Jony Ive serving a co-chair alongside Taylor Swift....
