In line with a rumor from earlier this week, we’ve heard from our sources that AppleCare+ is indeed set to soon launch in Europe. AppleCare+ is Apple’s premium support service, and it provides customers with technical support for both the iPhone and iPad for two years from the original purchase date. AppleCare+ also provides support for up to two instances of accidental damage. We understand that the launch is “imminent,” but no formal launch date has been announced internally....

During its September iPhone event today, Apple has announced the successor to its 2018 9.7-inch iPad, the new 10.2-inch iPad. The new entry-level iPad arrives roughly a year and a half after Apple launched the 9.7-inch iPad back in March last year. The new iPad includes a larger display coming in at 10.2 inches. That’s just shy of the 10.5-inch screen that Apple included in the revived iPad Air 3 that landed six months ago....

We’ve heard several stories thus far about the Apple Watch’s ECG functionality saving people’s lives. Now, an Apple Watch user in Washington has credited his Apple Watch with alerting him that his atrial fibrillation had returned. According to local news outlet KIRO, cardiologist Dr. Phil Massey of Pacific Medical Centers had a patient come into the hospital after his Apple Watch indicated he had an irregular heart rhythm. The patient had been treated for atrial fibrillation in the past, but A-fib can be intermittent....

The Apple Watch Series 4 has today been crowned one of the “Displays of the Year” by The Society for Information Display. The award is given to “display products with the most significant technological advances and/or outstanding features.” This year makes the 25th annual Display Industry Awards. The winners were announced at Display Week in San Jose, California. Dr. Wei Chan, chairperson of the Display Industry Awards committee, touted that the annual event serves as an opportunity to showcase innovative display advancements....

A new report from The Telegraph this weekend claims that Apple Store suppliers have been “forced” by the company to accept more stringent terms to sell their products in Apple Stores and on the Apple Online Store. Suppliers cited in the report describe being “squeezed” by Apple through these new terms. Through its retail and online stores, Apple sells accessories and products made by third-party companies. This includes things like iPhone cases, smart home accessories, Mac peripherals, and more....

Former Inquirer writer Charlie Demerjian at SemiAccurate (via MacRumors) today posts that Apple’s laptop transition from Intel to ARM is a “Done deal” Scholars of recent history would point to Apple’s two earlier architecture transitions as examples of Apple’s hardware flexibility. That being said, two-three years from now iOS might be more of a laptop-capable OS from which Apple could build some, if not all of its laptops on. Interestingly, nowhere in the post is any mention of the words ‘Mac’ or ‘Macintosh’....

This seems like a good idea. Apple’s opening a Retail Store next year in Chicago near a run-down subway station at North and Clybourn. Apple would like to spruce up the place in exchange for 4 million dollars in advertising money (which if Chicago is anything like NYC, is gonna happen anyway). A CTA spokeswoman confirmed that the transit authority is in talks with the computer and iPhone behemoth about a deal that could net the cash-strapped CTA as much as $4 million in funding from Apple to pay for an upgrade of the run-down subway station at North and Clybourn, which is adjacent to an Apple retail store now under construction and expected to open next year....

Trademark attorney Brian Conroy today published evidence of new trademarks that Apple possibly plans to use for upcoming products. Most notably, the trademark filings reference an “Iris Engine” and “AirPods case,” leading to speculation that Apple could use the branding for new products and features to be unveiled at its event tomorrow. The discoveries follow previous reports of filings for the “AirPods” trademark thought to be a name in consideration for new wireless headphones Apple has in the works....

Apple Watch has a curvy history with the color gold and accompanying straps. The original 18K gold Apple Watch Edition paired with a range of straps before being discontinued. Aluminum models have included three shades of gold (rose gold, gold, and “new” gold) with Sport and (now discontinued) Woven Nylon bands using gold hardware. Gold variations aren’t sold separately either which makes them somewhat rare. Apple Watch Series 4 comes in two flavors of gold — aluminum and new stainless steel — but the gold band variety is still limited....

As the legal disputes between Apple and Qualcomm continue, the latest chapter falls in Apple’s favor, as a federal judge has ruled Apple cannot be held liable for patent infringements prior to the lawsuit’s filing date, reports Bloomberg Quint. The decision comes following a request by Apple to dismiss Qualcomm’s attempts at seeking prior damages. Currently, the trial is set to begin next month at a San Diego federal court, hometown of chipmaker Qualcomm....

That’s what we found in a document distributed to Apple Stores, which shows that the cost of AppleCare+ for HomePod in the US will be $39. The coverage includes AirPort products and “adds up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling for HomePod, each subject to a $39 service fee”....

Apple is gearing up to soon begin hardware repairs for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c in its chain of retail stores, according to sources with knowledge of the upcoming initiative. Apple’s annual Apple Music Festival is taking place at the Roundhouse in London this week and this year, the company is going a step further in its activities at the venue. As announced in tweet by Apple’s VP of Environment Lisa Jackson, the company is giving the Roundhouse an “environmental makeover.” Apple says it is making major upgrades to several aspects of the Roundhouse, including its lighting, plumbing, and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems....

Apple TV+ has announced that the “coming-of-age drama series” Little Voice will premiere on Friday, July 10. This half-hour series comes from J.J. Abrams, Sara Bareilles, and Jessie Nelson. We’ve also got rumors of a new Apple TV+ series reportedly based on Gawker, as well as Daytime Emmy nominations. Little Voice features original music from singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles. The show is described as a “half-hour coming-of-age drama series” that is “fresh” and “intensely romantic....

Apple today has updated its Human Interface Guidelines for augmented reality to reflect the new features introduced in ARKit 1.5, which comes as part of iOS 11.3. The new guidelines cover things such as support for vertical surfaces, objects that are placed offscreen, and more. First off, Apple encourages developers to “guide people towards offscreen virtual objects.” The company explains that it can be difficult for users to locate an object that’s not position onscreen, and thus indicators could help users navigate to those objects easier:...
