Key Apple supply chain partner Foxconn has now broken ground on its first plant in the United States. The Wisconsin factory project is estimated to cost $10 billion and create thousands of jobs. President Donald Trump attended the construction launch, who has said he hopes this project will help kickstart a wave of US manufacturing, with less reliance on Asia. When completed, the factory will manufacture LCD screen panels. Foxconn is hoping to use the plant to make ultra-high-definition televisions to sell directly into the US market....

Apple today introduced the new Apple Watch SE. The new Apple Watch SE has the same design as the Apple Watch Series 4 and later, but it comes with the S5 chip, built-in compass, and watchOS 7 preinstalled. The new Apple Watch SE will be available in 40mm and 44mm with GPS and Cellular versions. It comes with new bands and watch faces, as well as Apple Watch Series 6....

Last summer, Apple lost a lawsuit over LTE patents filed by Optis Wireless, resulting in damages of $506 million. At the time, Apple said it would appeal the decision and today, a federal judge threw out those damages and ruled that Apple should be able to argue whether the royalty demands were fair. As we reported last year, “The lawsuit centered around a handful of Optis Wireless patents, all of which related to the use of LTE cellular technology in the iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad....

Apple laid the first stages of JointVenture out to Apple Retail staff today and as West Coast employees exit the meetings we are getting our first information on the new small business program. JointVenture will be launched on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. First the price: Apple will charge $499 for up to 5 users and $99 for each additional user/year. They really want to hit the under 10-person organizations hard....

The eye-popping chart above (via Fortune) shows Apple is on course to take control of global market share for portable computers (laptops, notebooks, and tablets) in the second quarter of 2011 – but that’s only as some analysts switch to accounting iPads as computers. Deutshe Bank’s Chris Whitmore, author of the chart, describes his findings: Many will be quick to point out the spike is due to taking iPad sales into consideration, a device that many analysts debate shouldn’t be considered as a competitor to notebooks and other portable PCs....

Apple has once again retained its top spot in the annual American Customer Satisfaction Index in the personal computers category – though three points down on its 2013 score. Apple has now held top billing for eleven straight years. The ASCI continues to lump computers and tablets into the same category, so the scores reflect satisfaction with both Macs and iPads. Scores reflect customer expectations pre-sale, perceived quality, perceived value, customer complaint incidents and customer loyalty … While Apple’s score has fallen, the biggest threat to its ranking comes not from the big name Windows PC manufacturers like Dell, Toshiba and HP – all of whom have seen their scores drop even further – but from the ‘Other’ category....

Apple has been pretty coy about the number of Apple TV+ subscribers, but an analytics company cited by the Wall Street Journal puts the number for the last quarter of 2019 at 33.6 million. That’s more than Hulu and, for the moment, more than Disney+… Apple hasn’t given much away, saying only that the company was ‘thrilled’ with takeup. The Hollywood Reporter and Variety said there were “millions” of viewers in the first three days, but that’s as much as we’ve heard so far....

Microsoft today announced that the Apple TV app on Xbox is receiving Dolby Vision support starting this week. With this update, Xbox One X and Xbox One S users can enjoy Apple Originals shows on the Apple TV app such as Ted Lasso, Mythic Quest, For All Mankind, See, and The Mosquito Coast in Dolby Vision. This adjusts the brightness, color, and sharpness of each frame of the video to match the display color volume....

Alongside the introduction of the current Apple TV design in fall 2010, Apple launched AirPlay. In short, AirPlay allows a user to watch a movie, listen to a song, or view a photo on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch (or Mac in some cases) and stream that content to the Apple TV. AirPlay typically works well and we have even considered it a major innovation in the living room appliances space....

Blood oxygen levels between 95 and 100% are considered healthy; blood oxygen levels below 80% may lead to compromised heart and brain functionality. Risk of respiratory or cardiac arrest is common after continued low blood oxygen saturation. To that end, Apple is developing a new health notification based on the vital measurement. When Apple Watch detects low blood oxygen saturation below a certain threshold, a notification will trigger alerting the user similar to current heart rate notifications....

Apple chief designer Jony Ive said that designing the Apple Watch was more difficult than the iPhone because it needed to meet so many diverse expectations, reports the WSJ. He made the remarks while accepting the 2014 Bay Area Treasure Award from San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art last night … Ive said that the company believed that a phone and smartwatch perform very different roles. The wrist, he said, is a place for “casual glancing” and “lightweight interactions....

Apple has today expanded its AppleCare+ for Mac accidental coverage program to several more countries. The program was previously available in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand but is now available in new countries across Europe, North America, and more. The full list of new countries in which AppleCare+ for Mac is now available includes, Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Mexico....

After unveiling the new wireless charging-capable iPhone 8 and iPhone X, Apple today showcased its new ‘AirPower’ accessory that allows users to charge all of their Apple products on a single mat… AirPower supports the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X, as well as the Apple Watch Series 3 and AirPods. In order to charge AirPods, however, users will need the new AirPods charging case that enables the charging technology....

Apple announced today it will hold it’s fiscal Q1 2014 earnings conference call on Monday, January 27, 2014, at 5PM ET/2PM PT. Per usual, Apple will provide a link to the audio ahead of time for the public to listen to conference call as Tim Cook and Peter Oppenheimer are expected to address the most recent quarter as well as take questions from key investors. While the Apple CEO and the company is notoriously quiet about future roadmaps, Cook has been known to hint vaguely about the company’s plans during these calls....

It’s only been a few short months since the 4th generation Apple TV with Siri remote was released, but it’s already available in refurbished condition from Apple’s online store. The discounts are slight, but they are definitely better than paying full-price: 32GB is $129 (Reg. $149) and 64GB is $169 (Reg. $199). Apple’s refurbished products include a full one-year warranty and generally come in great condition. Just last week Apple began offering refurbished 12-inch MacBooks for the first time ever....

Apple has given a straight-to-series order for an untitled four-part docuseries from the directors of the popular HBO series McMillions. Deadline reports that it was a seven-figure deal with a “highly competitive situation.” The currently untitled show comes from Brian Lazarte and James Lee Hernandez, directors of the McMillions documentary series on HBO. The new show will tell the “unbelievable true story of one of the largest scams in government history,” according to the report....

The fourth-generation Apple TV, set to be unveiled at an event on September 9th and released in October, will feature a mix of new and familiar hardware, according to reliable sources. While the new device will sport a much faster processor than the current Apple TV, a color-matched remote control, and a somewhat larger body, it will lack support for 4K video streaming and have the same basic ports as the third-generation model…...

Just a few days ago, a man in Seattle said his Apple Watch alerted him that his intermittent atrial fibrillation had returned. Now, a woman in North Texas is also now crediting the device for detecting a heart condition. As reported by NBCDFW, 75-year-old Liz Turner first purchased her Apple Watch because her grandchildren had one. It was during an Apple Watch Workout that she first noticed something was wrong. According to her Watch, Turner’s heart rate was 181 – which is far higher than her normal max heart rate of 140....

Over in Australia, the team at FoneFox have already been putting the Apple Watch through its paces underwater. Apple claims an IPX7 water-resistance rating for its device, which means it can withstand 1 meter of submersion for 30 minutes. However, companies often conservatively state the limits of waterproofness for legal reasons. The team at FoneFox found this very much to be the case here. The Apple Watch Sport was first subjected to a light shower and then a full shower (including soap) to simulate normal use in a shower....
