This update includes new details on the Secure Enclave, DFU and recovery mode, Screen Time, Shortcuts, and more. Apple releases updated versions of its Security Guide several times per year, generally coinciding with the release of a major new iOS update or feature. For instance, alongside the iPhone X, it released a new version of the Security Guide with details on Face ID....

Apple’s new iMac Pro is now available to order with a December 27th arrival date for the first deliveries. Along with the new machine, Apple is also updating its flagship software including Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro X. While we are seeing some major updates to Apple’s professional video editing suite, Logic Pro X is also getting iMac Pro support and other improvements today. Apple has now optimized Logic Pro X to support up to 36 cores along with a series of stability and performance enhancements....

Following yesterday’s challenge in honor of Veterans Day, Apple has already set its next Apple Watch Activity Challenge. As first spotted by Kyle Seth Gray on Twitter, Apple is holding an Activity Challenge for Thanksgiving later this month. You can earn this award by completing any walk, run, or wheelchair workout of at least 5K – or 3.1 miles – in distance. If you complete the challenge, Apple will reward you with exclusive badges in the Activity app, as well as stickers for use in Messages and FaceTime....

Apple has confirmed on its website that it will live stream its October event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which it sent out invites to press for earlier today. Broadway’s Tower Theatre is undergoing the largest transformation in its 92-year history. Apple TV users in Australia are receiving new content today with the launch of Cricket.com.au on the platform. Cricket Australia, the governing body for professional and amateur cricket in Australia, made the announcement today noting that the channel will be free and offer the “latest videos as well as highlights from the archive.” Apple TV users should be able to access the new Cricket Australia channel starting today. The press release says the app is entirely free but doesn’t specify whether or not users might be required at some point to purchase one of the service’s streaming subscriptions that usually cost $5/month or $30/year....

After weeks of rumor mongering and days of dried up channel inventory, Apple on Tuesday finally refreshed its iMac family. As part of the iOS 14.5 beta, it appears Apple is testing new ways to monetize the App Store. Building on the existing App Store Search Ads program, users are now seeing a new sponsored ad slot appearing on the Search tab as a “suggested” item. Previously, Apple only showed ads in the App Store when users searched for an app with advertisers bidding on keywords, similar to Google Search ads....

Apple TV on Google TV The new Apple TV app for Google TV does everything as you’d expect. From playing your library of content purchased from Apple to access to the Apple TV Plus streaming service. Apple subsidiary FileMaker has announced a new version of their flagship software product, FileMaker 12, with new database creation tools and themes. The Mac version of FileMaker 12 gain improved 64 bit support as well as wide area network support, enhance support for large databases, and add fast file and multimedia-content streaming. Database and project creation are now easier and faster with new and more intuitive themes on the Mac. The most important addition to the product is its more streamlined interface for creating interfaces that run on iPads, iPhones, and iPod touches....

Apple has today confirmed the 70 new emoji that will be coming to iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac this fall. Announced in a newsroom post, Apple shared details about the new set of emoji that will become available to users with Unicode 11. As detailed by Emojipedia earlier this year, Unicode 11 means a total 2,832 emoji (including all variants) will be available. Apple highlighted the diversity of options today....

Apple has updated the Apple Online Store portal for tracking your orders with a fresh new look, befitting the more modern iOS and macOS aesthetics with bold fonts and large photos. Yesterday’s report that we may see Apple Watch blood glucose monitoring when the Series 7 is released this year has generated both excitement and skepticism. Excitement because it could provide a far easier method of monitoring blood sugar levels than current devices, which require a pin-prick blood sample. Skepticism because non-invasive measurement has been a goal for a great many years, with very limited success to date. The saga of the LG UltraFine display mystery continues. After the disappearance of the LG 4K UltraFine display from the Apple Store, and the continued lack of availability for the 5K UltraFine, the plot thickens with the discovery from TidBITS that you can now buy a new 23.7-inch LG display from Apple that is otherwise unlisted. The seemingly-unannounced display is priced at $699. This is the same price as the ‘old’ 21-inch 4K LG UltraFine, and a few hundred dollars below the sale price of the 5K sibling....
