All Apple Stores in France are closing from tomorrow as the country returns to a stricter lockdown. Previously, some flagship stores in the center of the city had remained open, while those in shopping centers have remained closed since the end of January. Although France tomorrow enters its third national lockdown, the move by Apple is actually a voluntary one … The French government announced the new lockdown after COVID-19 cases doubled between February and March, and the number of patients in intensive care units exceeded the peak seen during the second lockdown....

Apple is expanding its Apple TV+ leadership with the addition of Warner Bros executive JP Richards, according to a new report from Deadline. Richards will serve as the head of film marketing strategy for Apple TV+, the report says. Richards spent six years at Warner Bros, starting as the executive vice president of worldwide digital marketing before elevating to broader EVP of worldwide marketing and chief digital strategists roles, then co-head of worldwide marketing....

According to sources, the iOS 8.4 upgrade is well into development and is codenamed Copper, a popular ski resort in Colorado. Sources say that the iOS 8.4 update will be released after the Apple Watch becomes available, so users should not expect this update in the immediate future....

AppleCare+ is coming for the first time to Australia in the coming weeks, according to a source. Apple will begin training Apple Store employees in Australia on how to sell the premium protection plan in the coming days. MacRumors is also reporting that the service is inbound to Down Under. iPhone and iPad users in Australia can currently only buy the less-expensive standard AppleCare plan. Apple revamped AppleCare+ for many countries earlier this year with an extended purchase window and by making the plan the standard....

I really don’t see why people are arguing over which platform is better, GoogleTV or AppleTV. I don’t care, I’m getting both. AppleTV costs less than a month of cable service and a Logitech Revue GoogleTV is about the same price as a 32GB iPod ($299 ish?). I’m not one to throw away money but I like both of these platforms and even though they overlap, they perform a lot of separate functions....

Apple is rolling out additional changes to its retail store practices as the coronavirus pandemic continues. Business Insider reports that Apple Store employees are being told not to offer Apple Watch or AirPods try-ons for the foreseeable future. This is part of Apple’s work to protect Apple Store employees and customers during the coronavirus outbreak, the report says, but there is not an outright ban on try-ons. If a customer specifically requests to try-on AirPods or an Apple Watch, employees can oblige....

Apple was the largest corporate user of solar power in the US last year, says a new industry report, underlining the Cupertino company’s environmental credentials. The Solar Means Business report was compiled by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), which says that it provides visibility into the usage of clean energy by some of the world’s biggest brands. At the Isetan Department Store in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Apple is building a store specifically for the Apple Watch on the ground floor. Macotakara thinks it might be a permanent fixture because it is listed in the mall directory below. Japan is one of the 9 countries where the Apple Watch will launch on April 24th. As users unbox their new Apple Watch units today, customers who bought the Sport version are receiving a bit of a surprise. The inductive charging cable bundled with Apple Watch Sport is actually made of plastic rather than the nice metal finishes of the more expensive stainless steel and gold watches. The material is very similar to other Apple accessories which have white gloss exteriors. It’s unclear why the Sport does not get the fancier cable: it may be simply for cost-saving purposes to maximize Apple’s bottom line or it may be a design choice to better match the materials of the Watch itself....

While Apple introduced its App Transport Security feature in iOS 9, which ensured that all connections between apps and servers must be encrypted, it wasn’t compulsory for developers to use it – and Google even helped them disable it.
