Research firm Strategy Analytics released its latest report today forecasting global Apple Watch sales and smartwatch marketshare for 2015. The firm’s predictions put Apple’s anticipated global smartwatch marketshare at more than half with 54.8% reached in 2015. Notably, that forecasted percentage is versus all other smartwatches combined competing with the Apple Watch. While the report predicts that Apple will take the overwhelming majority of smartwatch sales this year, it predicts a relatively conservative number of units shipped globally in 2015 at 15....

Apple has placed a straight-to-series order for a new comedy show called Dickinson, starring Hailee Steinfeld. As reported by Deadline, Apple has ordered a new straight-to-series comedy. The show will be written by Alena Smith, better known for The Affair and The Newsroom. The show will run for 30 minutes. It is currently unknown how many episodes Apple has ordered. Reuters noted today that Apple is working with healthcare professionals at hospitals across the country, including Mount Sinai and John Hopkins, in preparation for the rollout of the HealthKit system in iOS 8. The goal is to ensure that medical personnel are ready to read data from the system when it ships later this year. This move is hardly surprising, as Apple intends HealthKit to serve as a collection place for all of a user’s health-related data, which can be valuable—even lifesaving—during a medical emergency....

Update: Best Buy looks to be sold out in most areas. Apple Watch prices have been in a relative freefall in recent months with the oft-rumored upgrade expected in the coming weeks. However, we aren’t expecting a sea change upgrade this time around. Apple announced today that it is partnering up with popular actress and talk show host Oprah Winfrey. The company says that together it will produce original content that showcases Oprah’s unparalleled abilities. Presumably, Apple is talking about content that will be released in the Apple Music app for now, as the company has yet to officially announce its work in TV or film. Apple Watch Fall Detection has been credited with saving a number of lives, thanks to its ability to automatically call emergency services if it detects you falling and you don’t confirm that you’re ok. Glances appear when you swipe up from the bottom of the Apple Watch. This shows relevant notifications, from both Apple and third-party apps. The watch vibrates when a new notification comes in. Different notifications have different UI’s as well as different buttons. Calendar notifications are presented with a red and white interface, for instance. Apple is using a haptic feedback engine to power subtle buzzes to the phone, to alert you (but not people around you) to new notifications....

Apple TV+ has added a Golden Globe to its lineup of accolades. Last night, Jason Sudeikis picked up an award for his lead role in Ted Lasso. The show has been a breakout hit for Apple’s streaming service with wide recognition from viewers and critics alike. Re/code announced today that Apple VP Greg Joswiak will be attending its inaugural Code/Mobile conference next month to talk about Apple’s new products announced earlier this week including the new iPhone 6 models, the new iOS 8, and the company’s mobile payment system due out next month called Apple Pay. The conference kicks off at Half Moon Bay, California, next month on October 27th and runs through the 28th.
