Update: Mostly not true According to The Next Web, Apple is in negotiations to acquire criticized photo/video-sharing company Color. The deal is reportedly “done,” though final papers are apparently yet to be signed. Color Founder Bill Nguyen, who happened to found a company Apple previously acquired (Lala), reportedly has been building new versions of the Color app to demo to Apple SVP Eddy Cue. The Next Web claims the deal is in the double-digit millions of dollars....

Apple today has released a new version of iOS 9.2.1 that will remedy bricked iPhones affected by ‘error 53‘ after servicing hardware with Touch ID (via TechCrunch). iOS 9.2.1 is the same version number released last month, but the updated build from 13D15 to 13D20 reflects the resolution for bricked iPhones. Don’t expect to see this iOS update appear over-the-air if you’re already running iOS 9.2.1, however, as it’s only intended to make restoring via iTunes possible for affected iPhones....

Xsan is an Apple branded version of Quantum’s StorNext File System software with minor enhancements designed for Apple’s Mac OS X operating system. Xsan enables the sharing of one or more Xserve RAID devices with multiple Xserve or Macintosh systems. Xsan will also work with third party fibre channel storage devices with limited support from Apple. With the Xsan file system installed, these computers can read and write to the same storage volume at the same time....

While Apple had to close most of its retail stores during the pandemic, more customers have been choosing to buy online. To speed up this process, Apple will now ship products from its store stocks so that it can guarantee even faster deliveries. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple has started using its retail stores as distribution centers for its products, which has been done for some time by other companies....

According to a report by AllThingsD, Apple will debut its latest iPhone lineup during a special event on September 10th, just a month from today. The report doesn’t specify as to which models will be announced at the event, but if rumors are to be believed, we may see the highly anticipated iPhone 5S as well as a new, low-cost iPhone 5C. There’s been much speculation as to when exactly Apple will unveil its latest lineup as the company has been unusually quiet about new products over the last year....

Hot on the heels of Apple’s education event, the company has now announced AppleCare+ pricing for its newly released $329 ($299 for education) iPad with support for Apple Pencil. AppleCare+ for the new iPad will start at $59 for two years, a reduction from $79 previously. There will also be an option to extend coverage up to three years, starting at $79, which is a reduction from $99. Apple today also announced that it was discounting the Apple Pencil slightly for education users....

Apple appears to be testing next-generation 5G data speeds, Business Insider reports. The specific wireless technology is called millimeter wave which could ultimately improve cellular performance for iPhones and other connected devices. Business Insider notes that Apple has been granted an application for an experimental license by the FCC to test the new 5G wireless technology. The application allows Apple to test the new technology from two locations in California including one near its current 1 Infinite Loop headquarters in Cupertino and the other in nearby Milpitas, CA....

Apple has started sending out emails to Apple TV+ users whose free trials will finally expire soon, as the (twice extended) free trials with hardware purchases finally come to an end in July. With so many free trials ending in the same month, Apple has stacked its upcoming schedule of TV+ content in the hopes of enticing as many people as possible to renew and not to cancel. The email being sent out to free trial members features a summary of upcoming titles, including the second seasons of Ted Lasso, The Morning Show and SEE....

Apple will premiere its Apple TV+ original TV show Dickinson at the Tribeca television festival on September 14. The company will screen the first episode to festival attendees and then hold a panel with the show screenwriter Alena Smith, and stars Hailee Steinfeld (who plays Emily Dickinson) and Jane Krakowski (who plays Dickinson’s mother). Yesterday, Apple shared a trailer for Dickinson which is a pitched as a comedy-drama covering Emily Dickinson’s coming of age story....

In an effort to get ahead with 5G, Verizon is looking to include YouTube TV or Apple TV as part of a launch promotion in its initial four markets. As reported by Variety, Verizon will include a YouTube TV subscription, or an Apple TV 4K in Sacramento, Los Angeles, Houston, and Indianapolis — the company’s initial launch cities. Verizon plans to be the first wireless company in the United States to roll out 5G in the residential broadband space later this year, with support from mobile device manufactures to begin in early 2019....

The newly added CBS News channel is available for free and features the CBSN streaming news channel launched by CBS earlier today. Viewers can also access on-demand content from previous broadcasts of CBS Evening News and CBS This Morning. Additional on-demand content from shows including 60 Minutes, 48 Hours, Sunday Morning, and Face the Nation can also be found for free....

Two months after the initial launch of the Apple Watch, and only a day following the device’s debut at Apple Stores, sources have revealed Apple’s considerations for the 2016 release of a second-generation model. According to multiple sources familiar with Apple’s plans, the Apple Watch 2 is planned to gain a video camera, a new wireless system for greater iPhone independence, and new premium-priced models. Interestingly, it will also feature similar battery life to its predecessor…...

We’ve reported several times about the Apple Watch Series 4’s ECG functionality alerting unsuspecting users to seek medical attention. In addition to ECG, however, the Series 4 has a fall detection functionality. That feature is what one Norweigan Apple Watch user credits with saving his life. As reported by NRK, 67-year-old Toralv Østvang was found “bloody and unconscious” on his bathroom floor by emergency authorities. According to the report, Østvang fell in his bathroom, with the Apple Watch automatically alerting emergency authorities....

A sketchy report from Digitimes today claims that Apple is trudging ahead with work on its self-driving car project. The report says that Apple is working with TSMC on self-driving chips and exploring the possibility of some sort of factories in the United States. Digitimes has a mixed track record when it comes to these types of stories. Today’s report should be treated with skepticism, but nonetheless, it offers some rare information on Apple’s ongoing self-driving car “Project Titan” work....

TechCrunch noticed that Apple started including editorially curated subcategories on the App Store for games. The new lists replace the old “New” and “What’s hot” lists that were generated automatically based an algorithm. We’ve confirmed the change with Apple, which tells us that the switch to editorially curated lists for the games subcategories went live on May 14th. Going forward, it seems that Apple is moving away from these algorithmically derived and more automated lists....

Apple TV+ has inked an exclusive multi-year first-look deal with Martin Scorsese for future television shows and movies. As reported by Deadline, the deal means that Apple TV+ will have first dibs at content from Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions company. News of this first-look deal between Scorsese and Apple TV+ comes after Apple reached a deal with Paramount to help finance the filmmaker’s Killers of the Flower Moon adaptation. The film, which is based on a best selling book of the same name, was in development at Paramount, but the studio grew weary of the $180 to $200 million price tag....

Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller is now live on stage at the company’s special media event in California, and he just showcased a refreshed, slimmer, and sleeker iMac. “It is the most beautiful iMac we have ever made,” announced Schiller. “There’s an entire computer in there […] it’s hard to believe there is even a display in here.” The new eighth model is beautifully thin, but it still touts the iconic iMac shape....
