Apple has published a new support document detailing its plans to revamp the existing two-factor authentication system that it first launched last year. AliveCor already offers the first FDA-approved EKG reader for Apple Watch with its Kardiaband system, and a new study shows how that hardware may be capable of even more medical achievements. A new Cleveland Clinic Study presented at the American College of Cardiology’s 67th Annual Scientific Session reveals that AliveCor’s EKG system can be used to detect a condition called hyperkalemia. AliveCor touts the study’s findings that it’s able to achieve “non-invasive detection of high potassium levels in blood” through its EKG reader when paired with artificial intelligence technology....
Apple Stores and Apple.com will soon have a new Apple Watch buying experience for customers. The all-new Apple Watch Studio will allow customers to pair watch models and bands separately at purchase for the first time. Apple says the new experience will allow customers to create nearly 1,000 watch and band combinations. This previously required buying the Apple Watch paired with select bands preconfigured in the box. Apple has announced on its developer site that apps submitted to the Mac App Store starting on May 1st will no longer be allowed to incorporate garbage collection, which was deprecated in OS X 10.8. Instead, developers will be required to switch to ARC, Automatic Reference Counting, which was introduced in 10.7. This change affects both new apps and updates to existing ones. Developers who need to make the switch to ARC can do so using the migration utility in Xcode....

Apple is searching for European TV shows and movies to bulk out its Apple TV+ streaming service, as new rules to be introduced by the European Commission will force all streaming services to up the proportion of EU-made content. As reported by Variety, the EU wants to introduce legislation by the end of 2020 that at least 30% of streaming service catalogs must be composed of European-produced content. If Netflix, Disney+, or Apple do not comply, it could become illegal for them to offer their video service in the region....

A country-wide import and export ban on Apple’s iPad that ProView is pushing for over an ongoing litigation with the iPad moniker will not be easy to implement, or at least that is what Chinese customs officials told Reuters this morning. Chinese company ProView owns the “iPad” trademark and is petitioning Chinese customs to stop shipments of iPads in and out of the country. The plan reportedly is not working as expected, because local customs think implementing a country-wide ban on such a successful and globally popular product would be impractical, to say the least....
