Apple has unveiled an all-new Apple Watch with its first-ever, always-on display. The new display will always show the time and complications. The new Apple Watch is also the first to include a built-in compass. Apple is also bringing international emergency services to every cellular model. Series 5 also brings back ceramic white, and new natural brush and space black titanium models. Series 5 pricing: $399 for GPS, $499 for cellular, launching September 20 with orders starting today....

Airing today is a brand-new TV advertisement touting the abilities of the iPad. The ad is in a serious tone and is voiced over by a quote from the film Dead Poet’s Society. On Sunday, Apple debuted a new “Jump” ad for AirPods Pro, touting that the versatility of the wireless earbuds help you “turn the world into your playground.” Alongside this new ad, Apple is also running a “Jump” campaign on TikTok, teaming up with popular creators to promote AirPods Pro… Apple has an official TikTok account, but it’s not very active aside from running advertising campaigns. The new “Jump” campaign focused on AirPods Pro is slightly different, though, as Apple is encouraging other TikTok users to get involved by creating their own videos....

Apple’s trial with Samsung continued today with Apple using two expert witnesses to testify on its behalf. The Apple TV+ experience for web browser users has been improved today, with a new homepage interface that mirrors the design seen in the TV app when navigating to the Apple TV+ tab. The tv.apple.com web app is generally used by people who want to watch Apple TV+ content but do not own devices that are compatible with the TV app, such as Windows PCs and Android users. It is also used by owners of Macs that cannot update to Catalina and therefore do not have the native TV app option....

You’ll need a cable subscription for HBO and ESPN to work. DirectTV or Charter subscribers won’t be able to use HBO GO, and the ESPN app won’t work if you’re a Dish or DriecTV subscriber. Not a whole lot here for cord cutters. HBO Go does have previews, and ESPN has some videos, but no live streaming without cable. Everyone will be able to watch Sky News live. With a paid subscription, you can watch the anime service Crunchyroll, and the on-demand HD music concert and documentaries on Qello....

Apple still leverages Siri, along with several new software updates and improvements, including the ability to play music from third-party services like Spotify, instead of being limited to Apple Music as has been the case since its launch in 2018. The smaller speaker has the same mesh covering on the outside as the original HomePod, albeit smaller, but it’s more of a spherical shape than the column-like shape of the bigger HomePod....

An Apple patent filing filed today suggests that Apple may be working on a way to make its long-rumored iWatch slimmer than existing offerings by reducing the size of the battery required. One of the barriers to widespread adoption of smartwatches is that existing models are not exactly sleek. Technology lovers might be willing to put function ahead of form and put up with chunky devices, but the wider market buys on style first, technology second....

Update: Apple has now made the same change to AppleCare for Mac. Apple has made a small but welcomed change for those that have AppleCare+ for iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, adding improved coverage for defective batteries. Previously Apple’s terms for the extended warranty offered coverage for batteries that retained less than 50% of Apple’s quoted specs. But with the updated terms, Apple will have you covered for batteries that retain less than 80%....

Apple will further differentiate the next-generation 9.7-inch iPad from its predecessor by making it part of the new iPad Pro line, according to sources. Much like the MacBook Pro comes in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes, the iPad Pro will soon come in 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch variations. This trend follows Apple not calling its 12-inch MacBook a new Air despite developing the product as an apparent successor to the MacBook Air....

Apple has just pushed an update to its official WWDC app in preparation for next week’s developer conference. The update brings in a bright new red icon for the application alongside an iMessage stickers app. Today’s update also allows non-developers to use the application without having to sign-in to access its features. Every year developer’s use the WWDC app to be kept up to date with the event’s official schedule and venue information....

Apple has just uploaded its full WWDC 2015 keynote to its YouTube channel a week after it took place. Apple late last week shared the bizarre opening skit from the event on its YouTube channel, as well. The keynote, which was seen by many to be too long, comes in at 2 hours and 24 minutes. During the event, Apple introduced OS X 10.11 El Capitan, Apple Pay improvements, iOS 9, new features for search, Apple Music, a new News app, and plenty of other things....

As Computerworld notes, Apple changed the terms of its return policy today in releasing its iPhone 4 memo. You now have a month (from ship date if purchased online) to return your iPhone 4. There is no restocking fee. That’s a change from the company’s normal policy, which demands a 10% restocking fee for returned iPhones. According to the company’s Web site, Apple typically charges $19.90 for a returned 16GB iPhone 4 model, and $29....

Apple doesn’t share specifics on Apple Watch sales, but Counterpoint has shared its estimates on global smartwatch sales for last quarter. The report shows Apple Watch saw more impressive growth, 49% YoY for the March quarter which again made it the number one smartwatch by a large margin. Tim Cook mentioned some general highlights about Apple Watch during the company’s earnings call earlier this week. Counterpoint (via MacRumors) didn’t share specific shipment numbers, but its estimates show Apple Watch with 49% growth YoY for Q1 2019 (Apple’s fiscal Q2)....

Apple has taken on board criticisms of the messiness of the Apple Music app, and will reveal a ‘more intuitive’ version at WWDC in June, reports Bloomberg. The revamp reportedly follows a management shake-up in which several execs involved in the music project have left the company.
