Today, a patent application published by the US Patent & Trademark Office, and then discovered by Patently Apple, covers methods of increasing pixel density for high-resolution display technology in a head-mounted display. This is not the first time an Apple patent related to head-mounted displays has surfaced. As far back as 2009, Apple won patents related to an iPod video headset display. It also won a second patent just this year related to the Google Glass-like technology....

Research firm Asymco released some interesting numbers today about Apple’s retail stores—with the help of RetailSails, which gathered the data. According to the report, Apple has a 17 times better sales performance in its physical retail stores per square foot than the average retail store. Apple has told the families of two teenage boys lost at sea that it has been unable to recover any data from the iPhone belonging to one of them. The families had hoped that content on the phone might have provided clues as to what happened. 14-year-olds Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen failed to return from a boating trip last July, but their 19-foot boat was boat was found drifting 100 miles from Bermuda back in March, and on it was an iPhone belonging to Stephanos....

Unlike previous versions of watchOS, the ability to take screenshots is disabled by default in watchOS 3. Consumer Reports yesterday dropped a bombshell on Apple, making the new MacBook Pro the first MacBook ever to not receive the publication’s recommendation. As for its reasoning, Consumer Reports explained that the inconsistent, yet sometimes impressive, battery life was too big of an issue to overlook. Now, Apple Marketing executive Phil Schiller says that the company is working with Consumer Reports to “understand” the tests. In the latest pickup for its in-house studios, Apple has picked up the film project Snow Blind starring Jake Gyllenhall, according to Deadline. The film will be an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name. Deadline said the film was fiercely fought for by the major players, with Apple coming out on top of a six-way bidding war.
